OLD MONEY HAIR KIRSTY JUDGE, RUSH HAIR COLOUR TEAM MEMBER/EDUCATOR
Old money hair evokes major ‘rich girl vibes!’. When it comes to hair colour, it’s all about softness, infusing different tones through the hair to emphasise the look, whilst adding richness and brightness. In terms of hairstyles, the trend takes inspiration from old Hollywood icons, including Marilyn Monroe, with the hair having an extreme shine/polished appearance and/or beautiful volume that screams glamour.
Old Money Hair Colour
Old-Money blonde
Old-Money blonde will be one of the most popular blonde hues for autumn/winter season as clients start to take a step away from the clean, icy platinum hues and start to look for a blonde shade that provides their hair with a more natural appearance and adds depth and dimension, however that still packs a punch and looks beautiful. This shade is perfect for clients who are looking for a warmer, more golden toned blonde, that will add a glow to their complexion and provide hair with a super elegant and luxurious appearance. With this colour it’s all about colour placement and ensuring fine highlights/babylights are placed strategically through the hair. These should then be paired with a super soft, subtle shadowed root for depth and dimension.

Old-Money Brunette
A hair colour trend we will start to hear more about as we progress further into the year, old-money brunette typically features a richer, chocolate base brunette with woven caramel highlights throughout. However, tones can be tailored to suit the client and their skin tone. Highlights/babylights are placed more subtly and finer to give the illusion of a natural, effortless finish but still adding extreme movement, shine and warmth to the hair.

Old Money Hairstyles
The Old Money Bob
One of the most desired haircuts for 2024! The old money bob combines blunt lines with minimal layering for a finish that’s soft but voluminous. I find this style the most flattering when the length hits between the jawline and collarbone, however, the length can be tailored to the client and their face shape to ensure it suits them perfectly. For example, for those with a wider face shape, I would advise wearing the style slightly longer in length to give the illusion of a slenderer face shape. Styling this cut is also key. Although this features minimal layering, the layers should be enhanced by styling with a blow-dry using a round brush or a heated styling iron to add soft volume and smoothness. This hairstyle can also be paired with a side parting for those looking for extra ‘oomph’.

Old Money Sleek Chignon
The old money sleek chignon is a classic, timeless style that oozes sleekness and sophistication. Products are essential when creating this look to ensure it has a super glossy, high shine finish. I would use a bristle brush to pull the hair right back off the face, working with a styling cream or gel for hold and shine to help bring the style into the smoothest ponytail at the middle of the head. I would continue to smooth out the hair in the hairline before applying a little more styling cream into the ponytail and creating my chignon, securing it into place with an elastic or pins. To ensure no frizz or flyaways and further smoothness, I would then mist through a high hold hairspray. Two of my favourite products for this look are KMS Moist Repair Revival Crème and KMSHair Stay Anti Humidity Seal for 24 Hour Weather Proofing & Finished Looks.

Old Money Blowout
For those who love glamour, the 90s inspired blowout is back. This looks super voluminous and ‘fluffy’ without looking too overdone/structured. There are many different ways to create this look, however, I love to use classic velcro rollers or pins for ultimate body and bounce. Prep is key with this look to ensure it lasts and it has no frizz/flyaways, so I always prep by washing the hair, misting through some volumising spray with heat protection like Goldwell Stylesign Ultra Volume Soft Volumizer 3 and blow-drying before I create my curls. I then use heated styling irons to create big, bouncy curls, working my way round the hair and setting the curls in their rollers or pins. I would then gently mist through some hairspray and leave the rollers/pins in for a few hours for maximum volume. Once the rollers/pins have been removed, the hair can be flipped back, and any root areas can be backcombed gently for extra volume if required. Finish with another light mist of hairspray to achieve shine and hold.
